The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive came into force in July 2006 and bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

The European Union’s (EU) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC came into effect in February 2003. The directive imposes the responsibility for the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment on the producers of such equipment. As a supplier of interconnect products (components and sub-assemblies), St Cross Electronics Ltd does not directly produce EEE, as defined in WEEE’s Annex 1A.
